National Chung Cheng University, in collaboration with the Taiwan Institute of Economics and the Chiayi County Government, is embarking on the creation of a green "Jia" garden, prioritizing environmental protection and sustainable development as global priorities. On the 30th, the Manufacturer Integration Research Center of Chung Cheng University took on the role of organizing the "Net Zero Green Life Course" on behalf of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Chiayi County. The course aims to provide professional assessments and evaluations in the field of sustainable investment and enhance the county government colleagues' awareness of reducing their carbon footprint. The ultimate goal is to promote and implement net zero policies effectively.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set for 2030, the Chiayi County Government has enlisted the expertise of the Manufacturing Center of Chung Cheng University to serve as a consultant. Their objective is to optimize the content of the Chiayi County Voluntary Inspection Report. The "Net Zero Green Living Course" was organized as part of this initiative, aiming to improve the knowledge and understanding of the people in the prefecture regarding sustainable practices and to emphasize the importance of business aligned with the SDGs implementation goals.
The Manufacturing Center of Chung Cheng University has designed the "Net Zero Green Life Course" as a comprehensive learning program, encompassing four courses and briefing sessions. Experts from both within and outside the university have been invited to participate, offering one-on-one counseling sessions to business units to help them embrace a net zero green lifestyle. Moreover, the center actively encourages county government personnel to adopt more eco-friendly practices in their daily lives, to contribute to environmental protection and reduce carbon emissions. The course results will be integrated into a voluntary inspection report to be presented next year.
Lin Weijun, the director of the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, highlighted the significance of implementing sustainable development concepts in daily life and incorporating them into official duties. By engaging in the course, colleagues from various units within the county government can gain valuable insights into the importance of sustainable development and learn methods to achieve net zero carbon emissions in their daily lives. This approach aims to foster the sustainable development of individuals and society, as well as reduce the environmental impact of personal behaviors and carbon emissions.
Huang Shiming, the director of the Manufacturers Center, emphasized that as a member of the Chiayi community, Chung Cheng University is committed to assisting the Jiaxian government in promoting net-zero green living and sustainable development as part of its social responsibility. He also underlined that sustainable issues extend beyond the public sector. Thus, he hopes that county government colleagues will integrate sustainable innovation, implementation, or improvement into their daily business operations. By examining the relevance of their work to SDGs, promoting awareness and sensitivity towards SDGs among colleagues, and fostering sustainable development and talent cultivation, Chiayi County can actively lead from within to become a large agricultural and industrial county with net zero carbon emissions.
