中正大學-大學社會責任與永續發展

As for being a competent university, its inevitable responsibility is not only to cultivate the talented by doing in-depth academic research but to promote.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on our communities.

Since 2018, our school has been continuously issuing reports every year. Through the issuance of sustainable social responsibility report, we expose and explain information related to management, research, teaching, finance, society, and environment of our school to people who care about Chung Cheng University from all walks of life and understand the characteristics and performance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Chung Cheng University. Meanwhile, this report will also be used as a management tool for the school’s self-censorship. In the future, we will continue to disclose the situation of overall school management of our school to the outside world and establish multi-channel communication to communicate with our stakeholders.

Over the past year, we have tirelessly promoted and implemented sustainable development goals, achieving encouraging results. The publication of the 2023 Sustainability Report is a summary of our past efforts and future commitments, and a way to share our progress with friends and stakeholders of National Chung Cheng University. The development of our university in 2023 was planned around the theme of "Intelligence, Action, and Sustainability," with a particular focus on net-zero sustainability, social impact, and international competitiveness, striving for excellence and sustainable management of Chung Cheng.

In the area of net-zero sustainability, our university officially established the Sustainability Office in February 2023 and initiated a campus-wide carbon inventory in September to mark the formal launch of our carbon neutrality efforts. We have worked hard to train seed teachers in carbon footprint inventory and encourage teachers to incorporate carbon reduction and sustainability into their teaching practices. Additionally, research and innovation efforts are professionally driven, focusing on the development of hydrogen and energy storage systems, renewable energy control, prediction and fault diagnosis technologies needed for net-zero emissions, climate change adaptation, and CO2 sequestration legislation. We have established a forward-looking green low-carbon manufacturing industry talent and technology training base, dedicating efforts to solve global sustainable energy issues.

In terms of social impact, we established the Social Sustainability (USR) Ambassadors in 2023 and introduced full-English online courses on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the core concepts of "cross-disciplinary talent cultivation" and "enhancing local connections." We encourage more students to engage in social responsibility and sustainable action. Our university currently has 12 USR and USR-HUB teams, transforming school resources and applying faculty expertise to local communities to implement the essence of the SDGs and achieve the vision of local development.

Regarding international competitiveness, our university's Sustainable Smart City Command and Control Center (AI Center) uses advanced technology and actively collaborates internationally to promote smart transportation and environmental protection, striving to build resilient and sustainable smart cities. In addition, 16 professors from our university were listed among the top 2% of the world's leading scientists in the 2023 Stanford University ranking. In the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject, six fields from our university made the list: "Classics and Ancient History," "Linguistics," "Computer Science and Information Systems," "Electrical and Electronic Engineering," "Law," and "Sociology." Notably, "Computer Science and Information Systems," "Electrical and Electronic Engineering," and "Linguistics" have been listed for three consecutive years. "Classics and Ancient History" ranked between 51st and 90th globally and 3rd in Taiwan. In the 2024 THE World University Impact Rankings, four SDGs from our university ranked in the top 300 globally, and in the 2023 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, we received a perfect score in the "Water" category.

National Chung Cheng University will continue to strengthen the implementation of innovative research and teaching, net-zero carbon emissions, cross-disciplinary integration, social impact, and international exchange strategies and goals. We aim to cultivate professionals with comprehensive abilities and international competitiveness, leveraging our influence to connect locally and globally to address environmental, social, and economic sustainability issues, contributing to global sustainable development.
