To leverage the growing popularity of chatbots like ChatGPT, Chung Cheng University has taken steps to enhance the practicality of GPT education. Recently, they introduced GPT technology into the school's eCourse2 (Moodle) course platform and developed the exclusive CCUGPT (Chung Cheng University GPT). This integration enables students to interact with smart teaching assistants in the discussion area, and teachers can continuously improve CCUGPT's professional capabilities with the aid of intelligent experts. On the 14th, Chung Cheng University held the first briefing session to showcase the results and operational teaching to teachers and teaching assistants, aiming to bring new learning experiences to students.


Supported by the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Intensive Cultivation Program, Professor You Baoda and Assistant Professor Cai Zhengyu from the Department of Engineering at National Chung Cheng University jointly developed CCUGPT, which is now officially available on the school's course platform. Chung Cheng teachers can activate the "Smart Teaching Assistant" function when setting up the course discussion area. The Smart Teaching Assistant actively and promptly engages in discussions among students, interacting according to various course activity themes. Additionally, CCUGPT includes a feature for smart Taiwanese word correction, making the conversation between smart teaching assistants and students more attuned to Taiwanese idioms and educational vocabulary, thus improving communication effectiveness.


CCUGPT offers 7 teaching assistant styles, including humorous, serious and rigorous, calm and rational, and enthusiastic, tailored to different teaching needs. It also provides 3 teaching assistant duty modes: openness, curriculum-related, and guidance. Teachers can customize the "teaching assistant style" and "Assistant Responsibilities." Cai Zhengyu explained that in the open role, smart teaching assistants can respond not only to knowledge questions but also to homework answers and exam content. In course mode, smart teaching assistants only engage in discussions related to the course content and decline irrelevant topics. In guided mode, they focus solely on course-related information, refusing to provide assignments, test answers, codes, etc., and instead offering introductory information.


The "Smart Expert System" serves as the core of CCUGPT's knowledge base, automatically generating knowledge from the course content and undergoing fine-tuning training to strengthen CCUGPT's knowledge repository. Teachers can also provide correct knowledge through the "intelligent expert system" for CCUGPT to learn. You Baoda emphasized that CCUGPT's smart teaching assistant will support the Anytime Office Hour service in the future, enabling students to interact with the smart teaching assistant one-on-one in real time. Teachers can also stay informed of student interactions with the smart teaching assistant and participate in discussions through three-way dialogue.


Li Yuanyao, the host of Chung Cheng University's "Higher Education Deep Cultivation Plan 1-5 Popularization of Emerging Technology Education" and dean of the School of Engineering, emphasized the significance of properly utilizing ChatGPT and similar technologies in teaching. Integrating AI into education not only enriches students' learning experiences but also enhances teachers' teaching efficiency and overall teaching quality. Chung Cheng University aims to continue upgrading its technology, providing innovative teaching experiences to more students, and fostering the integration and development of educational technology.


Chen Yushu, vice dean of Chung Cheng University, highlighted that the focus of the second phase of the deep cultivation plan is curriculum reform. As part of this initiative, they invested 500,000 yuan to develop the CCUGPT exclusive to the university. In addition to training teachers to become GPT smart experts, CCUGPT also assists students in learning, dispelling any negative perceptions of GPT. Zhongzheng Chief Information Officer Xiong Boan expressed confidence that integrating CCUGPT will motivate students to learn, while teachers can employ diverse teaching strategies to cater to individual learning preferences.
